Anyone who has ever passed the large Jaguar Land Rover showroom in Park Royal, west London, may not be aware that it is actually managed by Lookers Motor Group. The car dealer runs a host of dealerships across Britain for most of the top car manufacturing brands, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Ferrari. Lookers also sells used cars and provides after-sales vehicle services.

It is clearly an enduring business model, given that Lookers can trace its history back to 1908. It was founded in Manchester by John Looker, who initially dealt with the sale of bicycles, parts and accessories and the occasional used car. In 1910 he joined forces with a local garage owner to create Lookers. The business was primarily a Ford dealership
